The Story of Cell Alert™

Cell Alert is an information tracking and delivery tool designed for non-profits and humanitarian aid orgs. It sends alerts to your cell phone or email when anything you want is located for you online (Grant Alerts, Regional Conflict Alerts, Genocide and Blockade Alerts, World Food Aid Alerts, Economic Aid Alerts and more!).

Cell Alert, The Who, What and Why

At its beginning, I founded Cell Alert™ as a non-profit service because I kept hearing about numerous African refugees coming to the Washington D.C. area from many different African countries.

For the past 8 years I have read about the terrible suffering in Southern and Western Sudan (Darfur) and I haven't seen much I could do to help the situation beside write about it and start an informational web site about the issue. But I decided to try to help by finding a local group of Sudanese refugees resettled by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees resettlement programme. I began using a program that my business partner developed to locate and facilitate the instant claiming of FREE used computers that are given away on the Internet.

So far, I have collected about 30 computers and I've distributed a few to local refugees already. That was how Cell Alert™ was born.

At the time I told my business partner about how I was using his program, we immediately saw great potential for it in many different charitable ways. We decided that the tremendous potential of Cell Alert™ should be available to the world in order to help as many people as possible to share their excess with others or to meet their own needs.

Around this time, a friend who works on behalf of a housing project in Southeast Washington D.C. told me that she works with many families there that have only 1 dresser for up to 5 family members, and I knew I had to use Cell Alert™ to help them.

Since I had nicely furnished entire parts of my house with high quality free items from the Internet, I decided to buy an inexpensive truck and to pick up some nice furnishing items and bring them to others. So far, I have taken 5 truckloads of beds, dressers, tables, futons, bookshelves, chairs, couches, etc.
